He was born to the late Joseph A. Pagliarani and the late Annie J. Eardley (Hamblin) on May 23, 1946, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Massachusetts. Vail grew up in Sagamore, graduating from Bourne High School in 1964 and Butera School of Art, Boston in 1967.
His lifelong passions were painting and chess. He was a professional New England coastal marine and landscape artist and a far-too-serious chess competitor (according to his sister and fellow Plainville Chess Club members).
He is survived by his sister Rena Provost (Pagliarani), her husband Ronnie of Richlands, North Carolina; half-brother Joseph “Joe” Pagliarani, Jr. of Sagamore; nephew Neal Provost; niece Kristin Roed (Provost), her husband Michael; great-nephew Jordan Roed; great-niece Brooke Roed; all of North Carolina; and cousins both in Massachusetts and Texas.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 2:00 - 3:30 PM, at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, Massachusetts. Celebration of Life will follow visitation.
