Paul Kevin McKenzie

McKenzie, Paul Kevin, 81, of Sandwich, MA, passed away on January 19, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA, after a twenty year cancer battle. He was born to the late Alexander and Mary (O'Brien) McKenzie in Waltham, MA, on May 9, 1942.

Paul graduated from St. Charles High School in Waltham where he was the senior class president, captain of the basketball team, and an avid baseball player. He worked for many years as a service manager at the Tom Lyons Firestone dealership in Waltham before retiring in 2008.

Paul’s vibrant pleasant personality shined in his colorful wardrobe. Bright colors with plaid pants were always noted with matching socks. Paul loved to spend time at his summer home in Dennisport, enjoyed walks along the beaches of Cape Cod and the Cape Cod Canal. Paul could easily be found at the beach surrounded by generations of his large loving family. If he was not at the beach, he could be found at the rink watching his talented grandkids playing ice hockey.

Paul’s passion as an avid amateur photographer, captured the spirit and events of his large extended family.

Paul is survived by his loving wife Joan (Williams) McKenzie, with whom he shared over forty years together; his sons William (Phil) and Craig (Amy); grandchildren Tyler, Jake, and Samantha; and his brother Daniel (Judy). Paul was predeceased by his brothers Jack (Ann) and Bernard (Anne Marie) and his sister Mary Gorman (Donald). Paul was very close to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Cathy (Williams) Anderson and family, of the Carolinas. Paul also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3rd from 9:30-10:30 am, and a service will follow at 10:30am at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Rt. 6A Sandwich, MA. Burial will follow at Sandwich Town Cemetery, Route 130, Sandwich, MA. In celebration of his life, attendees are asked to wear bright, happy clothing. Thematic socks are encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s name to the American Cancer Society or the Sandwich Public Library.
