Nancy Ann Buckley (Hardy) was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on December 10, 1944. After a lengthy illness, Nancy passed away on April 12, 2024. She was the wife of Bruce Buckley for fifty-nine years, mother of Bridget, and grandmother of Arianna and Caroline.
After graduating from Burdett College, Nancy continued her education, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Suffolk University. She was employed as a teacher at Bourne High School, Cape Cod Community College, and Harwich High School. After retiring from Harwich High School, Nancy returned to Cape Cod Community College in the role of Adjunct Professor working within Project Forward.
As an advocate for students with learning disabilities at Project Forward, Nancy worked diligently with her students to hone their resumes and build their job interviewing skills. Through her guidance, her students were able to acquire part-time jobs which provided the students with the self-esteem to pursue their life goals.
Nancy’s life included many adventures shared with her husband and family. Throughout the years, they owned several boats, her favorite being the cruising yacht “Starbuck” which was homeported in Tenants Harbor, Maine, where they maintained a summer home. There they enjoyed cruising throughout the Mid-Coast Maine waters with their daughter and granddaughters.
Nancy was a woman of varied talents. Three of the homes she and her family resided in over the years were architecturally designed by Nancy. A master seamstress, she not only sewed clothes for her daughter and granddaughters, she also was the go-to person for creating the costumes for their school plays, and even made Halloween costumes for the pets! Nancy was known for her magnificent handmade wreaths and cookies given to family and friends during the Christmas holiday season. An outstanding cook, she was generous in sharing her delicious food creations with others. She was a loyal friend who could be counted on under any circumstance.
In her quiet time Nancy enjoyed sitting around the fire pit with Bruce, dog-walking their Doberman, Maine Coon cats, estate sales, Corvette rides, and many joyful adventures with her daughter and granddaughters.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Bruce, her daughter, Bridget, her granddaughters Arianna and Caroline, and her sisters Susan Turner and Doris Hardy-Dow. She is pre-deceased by her sister Jane Hardy.
