George was born in Boston on March 5, 1938 to the late Charles B. and Agnes R. (Troy) Wood and grew up locally. Upon graduation, he heard the call of duty and joined the U.S. Army. Completing his Honorable service to our country, he continued his education, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Sciences. He began working in the telecommunications industry for New England Telephone, then AT&T in a management position. He rose through the ranks, retiring as the Regional District Manager for the Eastern Division of AT&T Management, Education, and Training.
George had many passions. He was an avid sports fan particularly the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice B. (Hurley) Wood, father to Mark S. Wood and wife Renee, Christopher J. Wood, brother to Joseph Wood and James Wood, and grandfather to Emma G. Wood and Reagan C. Wood. He was preceeded in death by his late son George J. Wood, Jr., his late brothers Charles Wood, Philip Wood, Matthew Wood, his late sisters Regina Fleming, Helena Drass, and Connie Knebel.
A Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, March 20, from 9:00am to 10:30am in the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home located at 154 Route 6A in Sandwich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am following the visitation in the Corpus Christi Parish Catholic Church located on 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in Sandwich Massachusetts.
Burial to follow Mass in Blue Hill Cemetery, located on 700 West St. in Braintree Massachusetts.
