Dr. Carl Warren Mores

Carl Warren Mores passed away on February 15, 2024 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. He looked forward to the fulfillment of the promise of a new life with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born in Portland, Maine on April 3, 1937, Carl was the son of Jennie Gladys and Carl Dearborn Mores (both deceased) and brother of Marjorie Bishop of Porter, Maine. He was the husband of his beloved wife, Jeanne for 64 years and the father of two sons, Carl M. Mores of Bonita Springs, Florida and Glenn S. Mores of Boxford, Massachusetts.

Dr. Mores graduated from Standish Maine High School where he excelled in sports and served as President of the Student Council. He earned his BA degree from Gordon College, his MA from the University of Maine, and his Ed D in Education Administration from Nova-Southeastern University.

He began his career in education in Kingfield, Maine as a teacher and coach of basketball and baseball. His first basketball team won the Western Maine Championship. He moved to Bonny Eagle High School in West Buxton, Maine for the 1961-1962 school year to continue his career as teacher and coach. He was appointed Assistant Principal and then Principal of the school.

In 1970 Dr. Mores accepted an offer to be headmaster of Riverview School located in East Sandwich, Massachusetts, a position he held for thirteen years. Riverview School became the first private school to be approved by the Massachusetts Office for Children. He then assumed the position of President and CEO of Cotting School in Boston, founded in 1893, a position he held for twenty-one years. Cotting School was the first of its kind, serving children with complex physical and learning challenges. Dr. Mores relocated the school in 1986 to a new campus in Lexington, Massachusetts. Cotting School is recognized as one of the finest schools of its kind in the country.

In 1995, Dr. Mores was selected by The National Association of Private Schools for Exceptional Children (NAPSEC) as National Executive of the Year. He was named as a Fellow of the Association and Administrator of the Year (MAPPS). The Board of Trustees at Cotting voted to honor Carl by naming a lovely new residential building in his name.

During his career in education, he taught at various universities in the greater Boston area including Boston University, Lesley University, and the University of New Hampshire.

During his retirement, he provided consulting services through his company VisionDiscovery.

Even though Dr. Mores often spoke of his unworthiness to serve the Lord, he served as pastor of two churches and was an elder for over forty years.

He always considered his greatest privilege to be in the use of his gifts in preaching and teaching.

A Memorial service for Carl Mores will be held at 11:00am on March 23, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Cape Cod at 2391 Iyannough Road, West Barnstable, Massachusetts. A private burial will be held at Sandwich Town Cemetery.
