Patricia Calhoon

Patricia Claire Durham Calhoon passed away on June 16, 2022 in Chico, California. Born on March 17, 1924 in San Rafael, California she spent virtually all of life in Marin County. Pat was the daughter of Carl Orlando Durham and Maybelle O'Niell. She attended Dominican Lower School and High School. Pat returned to Dominican College to earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Elementary Teaching Credential in 1944. After teaching in Vallejo, CA for two years, Pat worked for the Vice President of Shell Oil Company in San Francisco. Pat married John Milton Calhoon Jr. of San Rafael in 1946. After John's service in the U.S. Air Force was completed, they returned to San Rafael to raise their family of three sons. She spent the next 68 years in their family home in Santa Venetia until she moved to Chico, CA in 2020. When the youngest started high school, Pat returned to work as an eligibility worker for the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services. She retired in 1991. Pat was an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Sierra Club, the Women's Club of Marin, the Nazareth House Auxiliary and St. Isabella's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing Bridge and working in her garden on Mabry Way. Pat was an avid reader and was active in her AAUW Book Club. She loved the outdoors and was a lifelong hiker. Along with her Sierra Club friends and her AAUW Ladies Hiking Group, Pat was able to travel and hike in many parts of the United States, Canada and Europe. She also attended many Elderhostel Programs in North America. The real love of her life was family, her late husband and their three sons, their wives, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Pat also loved her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She loved getting everyone together for an outing, a picnic or a dinner party. Pat was predeceased by her husband John in 1979; and is survived by her sons, Christopher and his wife Rina, Jeffrey and his wife Dwiariani, and Timothy and his wife Bonnie. Pat is also survived by four grandchildren: Zachary Calhoon and his wife Susan, Caitlin Evans and her husband George Evans, Elijah Calhoon and his wife Ashley, and John S. Calhoon; and great-granddaughter Hazel Calhoon. A Vigil Service will be held at Keaton's Mortuary, 1022 East Street, San Rafael, CA at 7:00 p.m. on June 23, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of St. Isabella, 1 Trinity Way, San Rafael, CA at 11:00 a.m. on June 24, 2022. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery San Rafael, 270 Los Ranchitos Road, San Rafael, CA 94903 following the Mass. A reception luncheon will then be held at San Rafael Joe's, 931 4th Street, San Rafael, at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin, P.O.
