Barbara was born in Denver, CO. She lived in Maryland, California, Utah, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, North Carolina and Massachusetts before returning to California. She moved to Marin in 1973.
Her first job was that of a file clerk for the Department of the Army the summer before she went off to college. She often joked that she “was with the Department of Defense during the Eisenhower Administration.” She took her degree in Industrial Management and Human Resources from Utah State University. She held supervisorial positions with Public Service Company of Colorado and Mutual of New York Life Insurance Co. of New York.
In 1981, she started her own Management Consulting Company. Her first clients were BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Her husband died earlier and upon his death she became sole owner of William M. McGrath Company, Engineering and Construction.
She enjoyed her life, family, friends and hobbies. Special thanks to her caregiver Gladys, Sylvie and Charlene for the last few months. Barbara passed away peacefully at home in her sleep.
