Arthur Sing-Hua Ching, age 82, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California passed away surrounded by his family on Friday January 4, 2019. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 50 years, Alice, and his loving daughter Lin-Ann. Arthur will also be forever remembered by his sister Li Hua, brother Albert (Kuo Hua), sister Yueli, and sister Heather (Siao Li), his many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews Arthur was predeceased by his father Hoeng-Loe Tjhin, his mother A-Mo Tjhin, and his sister Naly.
Arthur was born in Jakarta, Indonesia as the devoted eldest son of his parents. He joined his parents in creating and growing the family clothing business in Indonesia, which sustained the livelihood of the entire family of eight. Arthur came to the U.S. at age 22 to attend college at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He also attended graduate school at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. He moved to California in 1964 to attend San Diego State University for his Master of Science Degree. Arthur moved to Los Angeles in 1967, where he met and married Alice in 1968. He worked as a software engineer in the Aerospace industry for 25 years.
Arthur's great passions in life were playing golf and tennis, listening to classical music, traveling, sailing, skiing, cars, and philosophy. His love of golf and tennis yielded life-long friendships with his California golf and tennis buddies. His adventurous spirit inspired him to travel the world to spectacular destinations including Iceland, Italy, France, Russia, New Zealand, Turkey, China, Peru, India, Nepal, and Kenya. Later in life, he became interested in mindfulness and meditation practice, and that brought him great peace and presence. Arthur wrote two books, one about his life story, "My Rensheng" and the second, "My Cancer Journey" was written after he received his cancer diagnosis, and included his thoughts on life, death and religion.
Arthur was caring, honorable, faithful to his family, intellectually curious, active, social, and adventurous, and loved to laugh and joke around. These qualities make him forever respected and loved by his numerous friends and family.
Arthur will be interred at Green Hills Memorial Park. A memorial gathering and interment will take place on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Inspiration Slope Mausoleum at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275. Flowers are welcome.
