Walter J. Johnson Jr.

Walter John Johnson, 96, passed away August 17, 2014. He was born February 14, 1918 in New York City, New York to Walter John Johnson, Sr. and Alice Hunt Johnson, Walter served his county first in the National Guard then in the US Army. After an honorable discharge from the US Army. Walter enlisted in the Air Force Reserve retiring in 1978 as a Major. In 1949 Walter graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with BS degree in Electrical Engineering. After a 30 year career with IBM, Walter retired in 1984. Walter Married "the love of his life" Marie Louise Johnson in 1943. Together they enjoyed traveling, enteraining friends, and playing bridge during their 55 years of marriage. Walter was an amateur ham radio operator from age 17 to the last days of his life. He often said the he was able to travel the world without leaving his seat. He regularly talked to friends and contacts around the world, especially England and Germany.

Walter was preceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Johnson; wife, Marie Louise Johnson; sister, Beatrice Johnson Eisen.

Walter is survived by his children, Kathy Roper and husband, Kelly Roper of Salinas; John Henry Johnson of San Jose; Suzanne Tanda and husband, Joe Tanda of Eldorado Hills; Mark C. Johnson of San Jose; grandchildren, Michelle Roper, Shannon Petty and husband, Michael Petty of Salinas; John Ross Tanda and wife Melissa Tanda; Katelin Tanda of Eldorado Hills; great grandchildren, Danielle Petty and Michael Petty II of Salinas.

Rosary will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 7:00PM at Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel, 710 Willow Street, San Jose. Mass will take place on Friday August 22, 2014 at 9:30 at St. Christopher's Catholioc Church, on the corner of Booksin and Curtner Ave. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.nder the direction of Lima Family Erickson Memorial Chapel, San Jose, CA.
