Marjorie was the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Moran) Hill, and born Marjorie Jean Hill in Omaha, NE on February 16, 1936. Marjorie moved with her parents to Southern California at age 12, and later graduated from Van Nuys High School, Class of 1954, along with celebrities Robert Redford and Don Drysdale who she respected and often bragged about. Marjorie was the widow (January 7, 2001) of Billy Joe Martin.
Marjorie was fondly known as Marge, Margie, and Mom, but her grandchildren affectionately called her Drammy; a name she coined for herself meaning ‘damn grandma’. Marjorie was a person who would do anything for her children, and she touched many lives with her adventurous spirit, zest for life, and love of sports. Marjorie especially loved the San Francisco Giants, Forty Niners and Warriors, and watched or attended every game she could throughout the years. Marjorie was a self-proclaimed ‘martini connoisseur’ and always shared stories about past and present adventures she had with her two best friends from High School; Monica and Marian.
Marjorie enjoyed a successful 30-year career in the insurance industry working for notable companies such as Fireman's Fund and Cigna. Marjorie loved family, friends, music and travel. In retirement, she became a travel agent specializing in booking Dixieland Jazz Bands for cruise excursions, and frequently joined in the fun as they traveled the world. Marjorie was a member of San Jose American Legion Post 791. She was a vigorous supporter of the Catholic Church, military/veterans, and law enforcement.
Marjorie is survived by her loving children Jennifer Bice of San Jose, Jim Davis of San Jose (deceased), Tim Davis (Tania) of Franklin, TN, grandchildren Nicholas Davis of Gilroy, Nathan Davis (Alicia) of Talbott, TN, Julia Davis, Emma Davis & Bryce Davis of Franklin, TN, David Hankla of Salinas, CA, niece Debi Larson (Bob) of Darlington, WI, nephew Bill Hedlund (Kathy) of Kennewick, WA. She also leaves behind (5) great-nephews, (1) great-niece, and was a great-great aunt to (19).
Her generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
