CA. On March 15, 2021, he passed away at the age of 23 on Oahu,
Hawaii, where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor as an active duty service
member of the United States Navy.
Manuel, better known as “JR,” was very athletic, outgoing, and passionate for the things
that he loved. In high school, he played basketball, ran track and field, paddled on the
dragon boat team, and was very involved in several school-spirited events. In 2016, JR
graduated from Independence High School and shortly after enlisted in the US Navy.
His time as a Sailor brought him to Chicago, Connecticut, an eight-month deployment in
Guam, and Hawaii as his first duty station. While stationed at Pearl Harbor, he worked
as a Machinist’s Mate on torpedoes, weapons, and was qualified in submarines. Known
as “Julian” by other sailors, he ultimately earned the rank of Torpedoman’s Mate 2nd
Class Petty Officer. JR loved his job so much that he recently re-enlisted and had future
plans to continue serving in Guam starting September 2021.
When JR wasn’t working on the submarine, he had many hobbies and interests. He
spent his free time playing video games, working on his two cars, and driving around
the island with his car groups. He expressed his creativity through drawing and
photography, and there was nothing he enjoyed more than fishing with his family. JR
was known for his great sense of humor, genuine nature, and loyal personality. He
cared a lot for his friends, was extremely family-oriented, and his love for everyone
remained strong even when miles away from home. JR will always be remembered for
his big heart and the impact he made on many people’s lives. He will be missed but his
legacy will live on forever.
JR is survived by his parents Ofelia & Manuel Julian Sr.; brothers Jillbourn (Phoebe), Mark, John Paul (Patricia) Andrew; sister Madelaine (Zenas); nephew Kobe; grandmother Herminia Julian; girlfriend Annie Huynh; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Irineo Julian Sr.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park in San Jose, CA
on Friday, April 2, 2021 and he will be laid to rest at San Joaquin Valley National
Cemetery in Santa Nella, CA.
