Kenneth Eugene Stump

Kenneth Eugene Stump was born on December 15, 1945 at Frenchtown, California, to Eugene French Stump and Flossie Bernice Pack. Both his parents were deceased. His sister is Deborah Stump Landis currently residing at Sunnyvale, CA with sons Terry and Adam.

He joined the US Navy on June 30, 1969 with his best friend Jim Pieper. He was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk as pumping/pipeline technician until he was honorably discharged on active duty on June 29, 1973. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Kenneth was an exemplary worker for which he was given the Certificate of Appreciation for service in the Armed Forces of the United States as Aviation Boatswain’s Mate “F”, third class.

His first wife was Teresa Silbernick. They got married on October 9, 1971. They have daughters Carol Stump Krumpter (Petersburg, VA), grandson Jeffrey and granddaughters Samantha and Elizabeth and Trina Silbernick Deakin (San Jose, CA), and has granddaughter Terra Kratz. They divorced in May 2, 1989.

He started his own Trucking Business in 1974 but decided to give it up due to the rising fuel cost and decided to join Anello Trucking Co in July 31, 1981 to March 13, 1989 as a truck driver delivering produce, wine bottles, etc around California, Idaho, and other parts of the USA. He joined Pacific Motor Trucking Co. (PMT) on March 28, 1989 as a car hauler (transport specialist) until he retired on December 31, 2005.

Ken was a fun loving, good spirited, loves skiing, camping, boating, fishing and just driving around. On weekends he went to the Delta to just lay back or party on his Ski boat. He has a very good sense of humor and everybody in the Delta loves him. That’s where he met Lillian Salgado Evans.

Shirleen Tompkins (Lillian’s friend) just got a 32’ Bayliner Contessa. She invited JR Rookie and Ken to check the boat’s engine. At the end of the boat inspection, JR invited Lillian and Shirleen to join the party for a poker run on his boat the following weekend, September 15, 1992. That’s when Ken and Lillian connected and soon dated. They went skiing at Tahoe with friends Jim and Sue Pieper and son Billy. They went camping at Tehachapi, CA. Ken was very supportive with Lillian’s activities and went with her to Florida for the Morinda Convention. Most weekends were spent at the Delta boating and fishing. They finally decided to get married and went to Tahoe for the weekend. There were no wedding plans – just spur of the moment activity. They saw Chapel of the Bells; name sounds right and just went ahead and did it on December 4, 1993. Lillian has six children from a prior marriage – Maria Theresa Gantuangco and husband Nick; Reynaldo Francisco Jr. and wife Elsa; Floriza Genautis and husband Rob and daughter Isabel; twins Zaldy & Dhro Francisco and Franz Francisco and wife Maria. Ken helped baby sit Niko and Alexia, children of Franz while they were still living in San Jose. He was very patient and had a great time with both Niko and Alexia.

Ken’s Ski boat was getting smaller for having fun in the Delta. They got their 24’ Bayliner on April 25, 1994, christened Relax Inn. This was replaced by a 28’ Bayliner christened Relax Inn II. They joined the Delta Bayliner Club in May 1994. Ken became Fleet Captain for 2 consecutive years then Commodore for 2000 and 2001. He assumed his responsibilities very seriously and was well liked and respected. Needless to say, under his leadership, all the monthly outings and weekend activities were well attended, very successful and lots of fun and happy memories.

Retirement planning for Ken and Lillian started in 2000. Ken discovered Fernley, Nevada on the internet. They both fell in love with the place and decided to relocate from San Jose, CA to the small town of Fernley, NV. Their house was built in 2000 but they did not relocate until April of 2006. For recreation, now that it was no longer convenient to go to the Delta, they bought the 28’ Komfort fifth wheel on June 7, 2004. They had fun going to Las Vegas, Reno and San Jose. They were forced to sell the fifth wheel and Chevy Truck in August of 2010. The NV Dept of Motor Vehicles revoke Ken’s driver’s license due to Alzheimer’s disease. The symptoms where already visible two years earlier, but was not officially diagnosed with the disease until October of 2009.

On June 8, 2010, Lillian won a trip for 2 to the western Caribbean on board Carnival Triumph from the Pioneer Crossing Casino for September 10 to 18, 2010 cruise. In spite of Ken’s disease, they managed to have a good time with full of memories. This was their second cruise.

Ken’s health went downhill very fast towards the last quarter of 2012 until he passed away on April 4, 2013 at Carson, NV.

Ken will be remembered as a good husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend, who was very kind; protective; fun loving; very sensitive; very neat and organized; thought full and loving – not in words but in actions. He was there for you when you need him.

For you Ken, may your soul rest in peace and enjoy your new adventures with the Lord. We know you have only just gone fishing!
