I’m saddened to see this. I knew John going back close to 25 years - I used to speak to him daily when he was at Lectronet and he was selling me 3com gear on a daily basis. John was a wonderful man. He answered the phone the same way every time…         ”John speaking”.  We all spoke to him so much we called him “John Speaking”. 

We never met in person, but still developed a great friendship. He was my sounding board and new more about our business than most. We  hadn’t spoken in a while after he got out of the Networking business and when we did catch up he sounded incredibly happy with his life and beamed over the phone when speaking about his family and his new love of being the owner of a business doing something he clearly LOVED. 

I literally just had a Vietnamese sandwich shop ad pop up on my phone and thought “I wonder what John Speaking is up to ?”. I was shocked and am very sorry for his family and friends loss. I also wanted to tell him that I finally got around to buying the WRX I always told him I wanted. I also wanted to drop a couple of Cowboys jokes on him. :(

I met John and Kim seven years ago when I discovered this nugget of fresh, wonderful food, Jonty's. John pronounced my name, emphasizing "Dawn" instead "Don". And when I would call in my order, he greeted me with "Daaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwn".  We had brief and happy conversations about career, life, and family.  I moved away from Morgan Hill, but returned often, and Jonty's was always a priority.  Yesterday, I stopped by, and there was a woman I'd not seen before. I gave her my order and asked if John was working. She said no.  I then asked if he would be by later, she said "I'm sorry, he passed away." Tears involuntarily sprang out of my eyes.  I am still trying to process why a soul so vibrant, healthy, in the prime of his life, could be gone so soon. My heart is broken for you and your family Kim, it is my prayer, that you heal surrounded by your family, friends, and the many customers of yours who made it a point to come see you, even those of us who had brief ten minute friendships with you and John.  We grieve with you. 


Everyone at Freds European Asian Automotive would start drooling in anticipation, when John's famous Pork Belly sandwiches showed up. You could tell from the taste and presentation,  everything was made with Love. So young to leave this world. John will be missed immensely.  Sympathy to the family.  We are so saddened. God bless.

My family and I were shocked to hear the news. We moved to Morgan Hill 5 years ago, and Jonty’s is one of our favorite most frequented restaurants. The last two weeks we had it twice. Even today. Thank you John for serving MH with amazing Vietnamese food, and making the best pork belly sandwiches. You will be SO missed but every time  we eat there we will think of you. I remember one time I made my husband ask for a less fatty pork belly and you made fun of him by shouting his order “one skinny pork belly coming right up”. Lol we laughed about it later that day. We will always support your business in hopes it’s can help support your family as well. Rest In Peace John.

This is such a shocking news to us all.  We are sending you and the children our heartfelt condolences and prayers.  John is finally resting in eternal peace.

It’s difficult to accept that you’re no longer with us, especially since you’re gone too soon. However, I take comfort knowing you’re in a better place and reunited with Vincent.

This man was the most down to earth sole i’d ever met upon stumbling into his little Vietnamese Eatery near the train tracks .. it became a habit.. even in the worst of weather….picking up his famous Banh mi sandwiches and Spring rolls… i always told him he had the best food in town …( no offense to the other great restaurants here😉)🥰He also loved our dogs and was always asking about them😁He will be missed ..😩So Young.. Too Young🙏Prayers for his family and friends 

This is a shock, I knew John from the CRC, every time he sees me at the gym, He would always say hi,  give me a big smile and ask me about basketball, we also go to the same church and he is just a wonderful human being, he will truly be missed, Rest in Peace brother 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Wow, this is stunning news.

I didn't really know John or his family, but I did have the opportunity to interact briefly with them on a few occasions during piano recitals when his daughters played so beautifully and mine was still learning.

That was awhile ago, but I have the distinct memory of how much grace, poise, and humility his kids had.  Their skill level was high, but it was how they handled themselves when they were not playing that impressed me so much.

Also, on a few occasions two of the sisters would play a piece together, and always with complete support of each other and without any apparent trace of sibling rivalry.  That made an impression that has stuck with me.

Even if I had never met John at all, and really, I barely did, anyone can tell just by observing his children how wonderful a father he must surely have been, and what a great influence he was to those around him.

So very sad to hear the news of John’s passing, I can only offer my heartfelt condolences to John’s family.  Our community of Morgan Hill will feel his loss as he was such a warm and engaging man.  Although we were only passing acquaintances, I enjoyed our conversations so very much, and I will miss seeing him around town.  Rest in peace John!

Such a vibrant soul and gift to the community in so many ways. His big smile and his hospitality  made his little corner of Morgan Hill magical.

I'm shocked and saddened by this devastating news.  Last time we got together was at your sister Theresa's funeral.  We were saying to let's not wait until another funeral before we get together again.

Time is so short and we need to live everyday.  I know you have lived life to the fullest! I will miss you dearly.

Dear Family:

My name is Patrick Hare, and I played USTA tennis for teams that played against the Morgan Hill teams.  Despite our participation in a competition, John and I always had a special connection.  Talking before and after the matches about  sport, food, and life.
  I hope you can find comfort in knowing how hospitable John was to me and to our teams visiting the Morgan Hill courts.
I will say a prayer for him, and his family.  Please note that some time during my next home match I will propose a toast with my team, in memory of John.
