John Arthur Marks passed away on June 20, 2021, at the age of 90 in San Jose, California. In recent years, he battled serious medical issues. He dealt with this challenge the same way he faced most of life’s challenges, with a plan, head forward, and without complaint. Despite the mounting ailments, in the end he passed peacefully and without distress.
John was born in Spokane, Washington, to Arthur and Julia Marks during the winter of 1931. He called many places home over the next 90 years, touching down in all corners of the USA and many points in between. John earned an engineering degree from the University of Nebraska through the ROTC program in 1954. He then served as a naval aviator for 10 years, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant, and was honorably discharged in 1964.
John’s career as a technical writer spanned 60 years, contributing featured articles in several publications. He was an active member of Society being generous with his time and talent. His influences are notable across a wide spectrum, having impacted his community and many individuals.
John met the love of his life, Donna, in Omaha in 1953. They married on June 6, 1954, and together they have raised six children (Caroline, David, George, Charlie, Anita, Nicole). He also enjoyed nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
