Don was born on the banks of the Sacramento River in Meridian, CA to Leslie and Beulah Kimerer. He spent his childhood in nearby Colusa, CA, where he enjoyed fishing, working on cars, water skiing on the Sacramento, and hunting on his grandfather's farmland. After earning a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University in Aeronautics, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he would spend the next two years “guarding the heartland” at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Don met the love of his life Sue at a bar and invited her back to his place for coffee. Little did she know, he did not actually have any coffee but that was enough to win over her heart. They eventually settled in Santa Clara, CA, where they raised their two sons, Kevin and Chad, and were married for the next 50 glorious years. Don loved his classic car collection, conquering home projects, tending to his tomato garden, and teaching his kids about the music and culture of the 1960’s. He was a fan of anything chocolate and never turned down a good hamburger. After retirement, he became a full time proud grandfather. He could be found smiling in the audience of his granddaughter's recitals, or basking in the sun at his grandson’s baseball games. He also loved traveling the world with his wife Sue, from cruising the Panama Canal to enjoying a scoop of gelato in Italy.
Don was a very kind soul who was soft spoken but always ready and willing to help those around him. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Don is preceded in heaven by his father Leslie, mother Beulah, and sister Shirley. He is survived by his wife Sue, sons Kevin and Chad, and grandchildren Isabella, Jacob, Nolan and Charlotte. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Don’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
