Chung Van Nguyen

Chung Văn Nguyễn, age 81, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, December 2, 2021 at his home in San Jose. He suffered a gradual decline in health due to cancer. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family.

Mr. Nguyễn was born on January 1, 1940 in Long Sơn Vũng Tàu, Việt Nam. He was the former Sergeant of the 1st Battalion of the South Vietnamese Airborne Artillery Division (Mũ Đỏ Nhảy Dù) from 1960 to 1975. It was an elite combat unit of paratroopers with incredible courage and tenacity, dressed in camouflaged jump uniforms and distinctive red berets. Mr. Nguyễn again demonstrated great bravery steering his immediate and extended family, in the darkness of night with the threat of capture and imminent danger, to escape communism for freedom. He immigrated to Brooklyn, NY with his family in 1980. He then moved with them to San Jose, CA in 1989 where he lived the remainder of his life.

Mr. Nguyễn is survived by his wife Thau Nguyen; six children: Jennifer and son-in-law Hieu Nguyen of Pearland, TX, Stepfanie and son-in-law Alan Aoyama of Campbell, CA, Troy Nguyen of San Francisco, CA, Samantha and son-in-law Ryan Averill of Campbell, CA, Tiffany Nguyen of San Carlos, CA and Tony Nguyen and daughter-in-law Cindy Huynh of League City, TX; grandchildren: Tina Nhien Nguyen and Chris Flores of Fresno, CA, Richard Nguyen and Mindy Pham of Pearland, TX, Calvin Nguyen of Pearland, TX, Ivan and Matthew Nguyen of Campbell, CA, Isaac Hernandez-Nguyen of San Carlos, CA, Marshall and Chelsea Averill of Campbell, CA, and Logan Nguyen of League City, TX.

Mr. Nguyễn was preceded in death by his father Phương Văn Nguyễn and mother Thêu Thị Le, three older brothers, and three older sisters. He is survived by a younger sister.
