Steve Vasquez Rincon

Steve was born on January 10, 1953 to Virginia and Pablo Rincon in Los Angeles, California. Steve is the third of five children. He has two older brothers, Gilbert and Tommy, and two younger sisters, Mona and Bertha. As a young child, Steve grew up in Pico Rivera as well as San Gabriel. He would spend time with his cousins and siblings, playing in the river, shooting marbles, riding bikes, and spending time with his Grandma Peter in Pico. Steve attended Pio Pico, North Ranchito, and Miller Junior High in Pico Rivera, as well as Wilson Elementary and Jefferson Junior High in San Gabriel. He collected comic books, records, and cars. As a teenager, Steve loved to cruise in his cars (1953, 1954, & 1957 Chevys to name a few), play his drums in various bands, one called “The Rhyn” which he was in it with his brothers, and hang out with friends at local hang out spots and parties. Steve was known to be the family troublemaker, yet he was also known as the family comedian. Steve loved his parents and siblings very much, every story he shared with his own children expressed how much he appreciated and loved them. Throughout his life, Steve gained many nicknames, Hammer, Indio, Stevie, and Hamp to name a few. He met his future wife Nanette in 1971 while attending a typical Pico Rivera backyard party. Steve would always share the story of cruising by El Rancho High School, to impress Nanette, which seemed to work. Steve graduated from Alhambra High School in 1971. Steve and Nanette attended prom at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles in 1974. On June 22, 1974, Steve and Nanette were married at Saint Francis Xavier Church in Pico Rivera. Steve and Nanette raised five girls, and later opened their home to foster care which eventually led to the adoption of their three youngest children. Steve was a big hearted man; he treated others with respect, and would help others in need. Steve worked in the automotive industry assembling parts and fixing cars. He also tinkered with TV/VCR repair as a hobby, collecting electronics or antiques that others were throwing out and trying to fix and restore them. Steve loved movies and music, and would often share this passion with his children. He always had an open tab at the local liquor store, video rental, and donut shop, where even his kids could come in and say, “Put it on my dad’s tab.” Steve enjoyed taking his family to the beach, picnics at Griffith Park, swimming at Smith Park, Disneyland, the Zoo, and sometimes just cruising through the neighborhood. Steve also loved to hit the slot machines. Since 2002, Steve and Nanette would plan the annual family Vegas Vacation trip

in the summer. The kids would rack up the room service bill, while mom and dad gambled downstairs. Everyone looked forward to it every year, even his grandchildren to this day. Steve also loved food. As a kid, one of his favorite memories was going with his Tia Cata and his cousins to Johnny’s Shrimp Boat every Friday. Some of Steve’s favorite food spots were In N Out, Why Not Burgers, Pepper Pot, Bob’s Burgers, Lupe’s, Taco Lita, and Little Joe’s, where on pay days he would often treat the family to dinner. Steve enjoyed cooking for his family, especially cooking a big breakfast for everyone on the weekend. Steve lived a life that was full of love and laughter. In his later years, he had begun a battle with his health, which caused a decline in his ability to walk. He fought his hardest to be strong, the deal with the day to day pains, and to adjust his life around his physical abilities. Steve passed away on June 26, 2014, after a two week battle with health complications. He has been called by our Lord, and he is now at peace, with no pain or suffering. He has been reunited with his loved ones, especially his son Kristian, in heaven. Steve is remembered by his wife Nanette, his children, lil Nanette, Raylene, Marie, Rosanna, Cassandra, Ashley, Robert, and his grandchildren, Brianna, Ajay, Nicolas, Colgan, Kenneth and Bridget. And also, his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and many friends and other family. May he rest in eternal peace.
