Paul passed away peacefully on June 13, 2012 while vacationing with his family in Hawaii. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was 49 years old.
Paul was born in Hong Kong in 1962. He was the youngest of five siblings. He spent his childhood in Hong Kong except for a two-year interlude in Taiwan, then moved to Oakland at age 10 with his father, a San Francisco native, and family. He completed his secondary education at Skyline High School in Oakland, received his bachelor's degree from California State University, Hayward and earned his master's degree in business administration from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona, before embarking on a successful career in finance. Most recently he was the head of the Strategic Auto Investment group at Wells Fargo. Paul was a champion for Asian American and youth causes; he was the 2012 Board President of the Chinese Historical Society of America, a founding member of the Advisory Council for Oakland Asian Students Educational Services (OASES), and has served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Education Fund.
Paul will be remembered as a remarkable human being; a person who was unerringly considerate, loved his family unconditionally, was full of laughter to share with others, and lived life to the fullest. He loved finding good food, preferred the down-to-earth to the refined, and was at once enthusiastic, sensible, and goofy. He was also a reluctant but consistent runner, and liked to do impressions of pop singers for his kids. Though he had much more life to live and lessons to teach, those who knew him find solace in the fact that he passed away doing what he loved most—spending time with his family and friends. Paul will be dearly missed.
Paul is survived by his wife, Suzie; daughter, Erin, age 14; son, Griffin, age 11; mother, Teresa; and a large extended family spanning China, the Bay Area, the East Coast, and Europe.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at 6pm with a Vigil service at 7pm on Friday, June 22, and a funeral mass at 11am on Saturday, June 23, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church on 2555 Seventeenth Avenue in San Francisco. Interment, Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma, CA.
