Born on April 17, 1957, in Van Nuys, California to Jack Bernard White and Edna Grey White, Stanley grew up with his older sister Jackie and younger sister Angie. He attended Baldwin Park High School in Baldwin Park, California, where he played football his freshman year. In 1975, Stanley enrolled in San Diego State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1980.
After graduating, Stanley worked at Eric the Reds Stereo. He later moved to Leo’s Stereo and worked his way up to Vice President of Sales. In 1991, he opened San Diego Stereo. The main store in Kearny Mesa became a San Diego icon for all car and automotive enthusiasts and Stanley opened satellite stores in Poway and El Cajon. In 2016, he sold the company after 25 years of service to his community. He then transitioned to working as the office manager with his wife at Schaffer Family Law Group. Stanley’s gentle but effective management style increased efficiency and team morale.
Stanley was also known in the community for his tireless efforts coaching youth sports. Stanley started coaching when Jack began playing t-ball and in 2001, his team won the Encinitas Little League championship. Stanley spent many hours at the YMCA scouting teams and coaching Jack. Later, he also assisted Jack in Pop Warner and his high school football career, leading up to Jack’s team winning the CIF championship in 2008. Stan continued his coaching career with his stepson Simon and coached for four years in the Friday Night Lights League.
Stan’s heart led him to give back to the community as well. He diligently advocated for neighborhood projects and participated in town meetings and individual meetings with Encinitas City Council members and the mayor. He recently joined the Homeowners Association in his neighborhood and his gracious manner and generous heart assisted the board to resolve local issues and complete restorations projects.
Stanley enjoyed riding in the desert and welcomed many families and friends to his property in Ocotillo Wells. He spent many weekends with Jack and friends dirt biking, jeeping and even the occasional spring bloom hike. Stan also spent time at his family’s home in Parker, Arizona. An excellent water-skier, Stanley’s true joy was driving the boat and encouraging his family and friends on the wakeboard and super tube. The river provided Stan a special retreat to spend time with family and friends.
Stanley also enjoyed skiing in big bear and was a tremendous athlete. In the last few years, he enjoyed a resurgence in his golf game with the men from church and a group of friends.
Although Stan suffered health challenges, his zest for life and generous heart were contagious to all those around him.
He is survived by his mother, wife, two sisters, nephew and his wife, Mike and Patty Bearden, and children, Jack White, Jack’s fiancé, Heather Flores, Susannah, and Simon Schaffer.
He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated Husband, Brother, Son, Father, Uncle, Friend, and businessman and as a loving, kind, and generous inspiration to his entire family.
