Richard "Rick" Shrontz

Rick spent his grade school years in Bellevue and Mercer Island, WA, and then graduated from Langley High School in McLean, VA after the family moved east. He attended the University of Idaho and pledged the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, as did his grandfather, father and two brothers. He later obtained his bachelor’s degree in San Diego and was a social worker for a number of years. Rick was a long time resident of Ocean Beach and savored the Southern California lifestyle with his many friends, especially his friends of 30 years Russ and Didi Rude. Rick was a kind-hearted person who often thought of others before himself. He is survived by his father, Frank Shrontz, his brothers Craig (Lynn) and David (Meghan), and his niece and nephew, Ellen and Reed Shrontz. Rick’s mother, Harriet Shrontz, predeceased him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 3 pm at the Merkley-Mitchell Mortuary, 3655 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103.
