At 86 he had lived longer than anyone else in his family clear back to the 1700’s.
He married Ruth on December 11, 1946 and have been together for 64 years. They had two children, Chuck (wife Ella) and Linda (husband David). Two grandsons, Adam and Kiel (pronounced Kyle).
Dick, barley had a 6th grade education, his family owned a farm and were very poor. His parents signed for him to go into the Navy where he spent 21 years. He retired as a Chief Machinist Mate. He worked as an Electrician for Calif. Electric. He spent his last years working for Quality RV. After he retired, whenever we would go for a drive, Dad always pointed all these building or mountains and say “See that building, I put a generator in there.
Many years ago he was a proud and active member of the masons. Dick could make, fix, build or repair anything. He turned their huge patio into a party room complete with bathroom, bar, wood burning stove; he even bought a sewing machine to make the curtains for the windows.
He remodeled a trailer in the desert where they used to go dune buggying on the weekends. With his dune buggy friends, built the dune buggy. He bought a 1955 Greyhound bus and converted it into a motor home which took7 years to complete.
He wasn’t happy sitting still; he always had to be busy. Their home which they have had for 59 years still has his handy work throughout it.
When asked recently what was the best times of his life he replied “Well having you kids, I didn’t have a choice so I just enjoyed you and I enjoy your boys just the same”. When asked about the Navy he said “It paid well and I got a good education”.
Dick has been a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a good provider and felt after becoming bedridden it was his duty to take care of his wife and family.
The family would like to thank you for attending today in honor of this man that they called, Friend, Husband, Dad and Grandpa.
They would also like to thank the Staff at Jacob Health Care Center for the Loving care they gave him this past year.
