Born and raised in Corbin, Kentucky, Paul served in the United States Navy as a Lt. in the Pacific Campaigns of World War II and the Korea Conflict. He graduated from the University of Pacific with a MA in Linguistics and married his wife, Thelma in 1950. They settled in San Diego in 1954 living in Point Loma/Ocean Beach until his passing. Retired from the Retail Clerks Union in 1984, Paul enjoyed travel, camping, hiking, gardening, coinage, family events and politics, donating his time on election days to the SD Registrar of Voters from 1960 to 2012.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Thelma Elam, three adult sons and five grandchildren.
By all accounts, he had a good run. If you were touched in some way by his kindness, donations to San Diego Hospice are greatly appreciated.
God’s speed, Senior –Pop-Dad and Grandpa
