Myles Jerry Collins, 76, of San Diego, CA passed away on September 3,2020 after being diagnosed with cancer in May. He was born in Chicago, IL to William and Mary Collins (Nash), who immigrated from Ireland. In Chicago, Myles was raised with his four siblings, Bill, Ed, Maureen and Katie, and graduated from De La Salle Institute. He then met the love of his life, Joan Collins (Jarmak). They were married in October of 1964 and blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Susie. True to the Collins way of creating opportunity to better one’s family, Myles took a risk and moved his wife and children to San Diego, CA.
The decision led to a 47 year career with State Farm Insurance, where his colleagues became friends and his employees were family. During his time as an agent, he made time to further his education by earning his bachelor’s degree and many certifications. In addition to a successful career, San Diego brought Myles to his hobby of golf. Golf not only led him and Joan to many beloved friends, but also the fortuity to travel and experience new places. He often explained his “perfect Sunday plan” consisted of an early morning tee time that ensured he was home for church with his family. With his children, Myles was an involved father who was active in the community of Mary, Star of the Sea in La Jolla, CA. He planned family vacations, coached softball teams and even served as President of the Parent Teacher Organization. Myles found great joy in his relationship with his nieces and nephews. As he became a grandfather, he continued his support of family by being present for everything from Christmas pageants to Fall fundraisers at St. Michael’s of Poway. His relationship with his granddaughters, Amanda, Sarah and Ashlyn, progressed from patient teacher and generous supporter to trusted confidant and friend. Myles is survived by his wife, daughters and granddaughters. He will be remembered for his ability to remain strong, yet kind, his eagerness to make time for others, and through the many stories earned by his adventurous spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the following worthy charities “In loving memory of Myles Collins”.
