Mark will be always be missed. I will always remember him. He was a great friend.

I got a notice that Mark's guest page will be closing soon...it reminded me of what a loss I have felt since his passing.  We didn't talk that often, usually 2-3 times a year, but each visit was long, heartfelt and uplifting.  Mark loved his mother and family members and friends so much.  I miss him and pray that he is watching over each of us and knows how much he was loved and is missed.  Love you brother!

Mark was a bigger than life person and spoke of family and friends often. He will be missed but never forgotten.Thank you for making me a better person.

I wish to express my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Souza family.  Mark was a dear friend and I was shocked to learn on Christmas morning of his passing in October. We had spoken just before his passing of his upcoming trip up North to visit his family and we hoped to meet up while he was up here.  I've known Mark since 1989 when I moved to San Francisco.  He was a great friend, loyal, persuasive and dedicated to his family and friends.  Even though we were no longer geographically close to each other, we spoke several times a year and saw each other at least every other year.  I'll remember Mark for being there when my Mom passed away, being a good friend and getting me out of the house and interacting with others.  He introduced to the Softball league in San Francisco and his abundance of friends which I will be forever thankful for.  His intensity, his loyalty to friends and his passion for life were some of the traits I admired most.  Mark, you will be missed by me and many others.

I loved Mark with all my heart. Hearing of his passing made me so very sad. I will miss or lunches and our baby cakes ... moments. Mark was a good friend to me and a great baseball coach for the hundreds of guys who were on our team for the almost 10 years that we coached together. I am disappointed that I did not hear about his passing sooner. I'll miss you, Coach.

Mark was a great man and a beautiful person. We were shocked when his sister told us that he had passed away. He will surely be missed.May God  take him in His holy bossom.

I was very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He was a great guy with a warm smile. I ran in to him years ago in Santa Cruz when I probably looked like a drowned rat in shorts and he was in a crisp white shirt and tie. I told him he really stood out in the beach crowd! May the memory of his warmth and smile bring comfort to his loved ones. God bless and RIP Mark.

We love you mark. He was one of the most generous and kind individuals I have ever met. He could talk to anyone anywhere and helped so many. We were fortunate to have him move in next door 7 years ago so I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with him. He was always on the go playing tennis almost every other day. He developed a love for the game almost more than baseball! Often we would stay up all night talking and laughing till the wee hours of the morning until my partner Richard would get out of bed and come get me. Mark was hilarious. He was the best designated driver ever. He had two great dogs that he loved very much. Sampson and Millie who passed away recently. He will be so happy to see them. Mark was fantastic friend to all. We will miss you and love you forever!

K-12...50+ years of knowing you, loving you, respecting your love for God, Family and Friends.  A voice of reason in a world ever gaining in insanity.  I remember when I lost each of my parents; you were a lighthouse of compassion, love and vivid memories.  You were my brother from another mother and I pray you are a chief greeter at those pearly gates when it is my time to meet up with you again.  Much love and prayers to your Mother and siblings.

Nearly 35 years ago Mark found me sitting quietly alone in one of The City's largest and craziest dance clubs. My journey with Mark had begun. He was so outgoing, seemingly unafraid, and extremely caring and kind. I was soon introduced to his mom Violet and immediately figured out where Mark crafted his doting ways. Violet was so generous with concern for us and always making sure we had something to eat; 35 years later, Mark never wavered from the same caring ways she instilled in him. I worked at HP and he at NCR. We were never short of business stories of the day. From baseball to roller skating, where Mark would lead the string during The Whip in hopes he could shake off the weaker, he was always adventurous and very insistent! 
I've attached some pics from the early '80s at our apartments when he helped me build Big Wheels for kids games at our HP picnic. 
As Andre mentions, there were some dark times that Mark and many endured; George was clearly one of them. Our animals are our children and Marks recent loss of Millie was evidence of how hard it is to lose a loved one. He is surely in a sound place with familiar life.

I played baseball with Mark as well in hiigh school and some of my fondest and most jealous memories of Mark were when we would go the the batting cage and hit baseballs..........IN HIS BACKYARD.  Man...that made him one cool dude in my book.   Rest in Peace Mark.

Mark was a great friend, I remember a few years back my son was playing baseball in San Diego and Mark came and watched him play even with his busy schedule, that meant so much to me. I will miss Mark and his smile..

I remember playing Little League with Mark and how he always had that great BIG smile . He was quite the Pitcher in Little League .

I have known Mark a few years now. Very mellow nice guy. He will be missed.

I will miss you very much Mark. Until we meet again my friend. I will cherish the times we have spent together. This is just the perfect photo of you my friend. Mark and I had so many discussions in his kitchen as this photo depicts. Mark was a wonderful, kind, loving, giving man who I and his many friends and loved ones will miss dearly. He was the consummate host, a fabulous cook, a sage advice giver, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Mark knew every fabulous hole-in-the-wall restaurant between San Francisco and San Diego. He could take a dying house plant and love it back to life. He could take a small tree cutting and grow an orchard. He loved animals and his darling dog Milley proceeded him in death by just a few months. Mark loved to surround himself with inexpensive beauty that gave him great joy. He was well read and always a delight to talk to about the best books, current events, and his favorite sports teams. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him but I am feeling just so blessed to have called him my friend.

I have known Mark since 1984, when we played in the SF Softball league for the same team.  We were the two "outsiders" so we immediately bonded.  We became very good friends, and a third friend joined our party, George Minchaca, and the three of us were known as the three musketeers.  We both moved away from SF but remained in contact (before FB and internet).  George died of AIDS in the early 90s. Mark and I of course mourned the loss together. We would also see each other at softball tournaments all over the US.  We both moved to San Diego, and ended up living 1 mile apart from each other.  After he broke up with his longtime partner, he moved near my other good friend Pat Collins.  Although Mark and I saw less of each other than I would have liked (my work required a lot of travel), I knew he was thinking of me, and I of him.  We always had that connection, and we always will, whether he is here on earth, or high up in the skies.  I love you Mark, and the last time I saw you (three weeks ago), I said farewell and I look forward to seeing you when I get back.  Not the best way to say goodbye, but I have to live with it.  Take care my good friend, and say hi to George, Sampson and Millie.  Now all of you can watch over me until I join you.

I grew up with Mark such a wonderful man. He will be missed dearly.

Mark was a long time friend and I have know him from the 2nd grade. Mark had a great laugh and smile. I couldn't have a better friend than Mark growing up. He touch many hearts. I love his family and his Uncle Ken was a teacher in hitting a baseball. I will miss him dearly. Love you Mark

Mark and I met about a year ago at a local French pastry café and had an instant friendship. His happy smile and bright blue eyes were obvious, but he also had a warm, kind heart,and was first on the scene to help anyone who needed assistance. He will be missed by many, but a special place in my heart will always remember him.
