It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a remarkable man, Luis Valero Paz Jr., who left this world on December 22, 2023, in San Diego. Born on May 22, 1931, in the Philippines, Luis lived a life filled with curiosity, creativity, and incredible work ethic.
Luis Valero Paz Jr. was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Armed with degrees in both business administration and architecture, he seamlessly blended the worlds of commerce and creativity throughout his career. His impact was profound as a beloved professor of architecture in the Philippines, where he inspired countless students with his wisdom and shared his knowledge freely through the creation of a handmade textbook.
With nearly four decades as an architect, Luis lent his vision and expertise to the landscape of San Diego. For 25 years, he dedicated his talents to the San Diego Unified School District, designing educational spaces that would shape the minds and futures of generations to come. His ingenuity also extended to the realm of private residences, where he left an indelible mark in the hills of La Jolla and the daily lives of the families who live in those homes. He continued to do freelance and consulting work long after retirement.
Beyond his professional achievements, Luis was an artist at heart. His love for painting and drawing, particularly in the style of Western pieces like those of Olaf Wieghorst, and building models revealed the depth of his productive spirit. Through his art, gardening, and wit, he expressed a profound connection to the beauty and inventions of the world and the people around him.
Luis Valero Paz Jr. is survived by his three children, Ana, Luis, and Ramon, who carry the torch of his spirit and genorosity. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren further attest to the enduring impact of his presence. At his side for 64 years, his wife, Leticia Paz, remains a testament to the enduring power of love.

A graveside service for Luis will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. Following the graveside service will be a visitation from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121.
