John Posz Williamson

Son of Ray and Marguerite Williamson, John Posz Williamson and his family moved from Sanborn, Minnesota to San Diego County when he was three years old. A graduate of Grossmont Union High School, he met his first wife Evelyn Brendt while working as an inspector at CONVAIR. In 1944 he joined the war effort in Germany leaving behind his wife and unborn son, John Brendt, who would be 15 months old when he returned. He came back an Army decorated war hero having earned a silver star for bravery for his heroic and successful efforts to save two other soldiers. His second son, Robert was born four years later. Following in his father-in law, Leland Brendt’s footsteps, he joined the San Diego County Marshalls office where he, rose in the ranks, raised a family, earned a law degree, and somehow also managed to follow the Aztecs, Padres, and, as a season ticket holder for over 50 years, the Chargers. Three decades with the Marshall’s office, he eventually served as the interim Marshall. He spent his last decade in the workforce with a successful law practice. His engagement with the community continued long into retirement. He stayed active in toastmasters and served for 16 years as the “benevolent dictator” of the La Mesa Senior Softball League which he helped found. While in his 80’s he especially relished being able to play on the same team as his son Brendt. After 54 years of marriage, his beloved wife Evelyn succumbed to Leukemia. John met and married Patricia in 1998 while still a young 76. They traveled and he taught her to dance. When his health declined she never left his side. He is beloved by his family and his many friends. He was very wise and kind and he made the world a better place.
