Hugo Searle Miller passed away peacefully on Dec 2, 2012 at the age of 91, surrounded by his loved ones in a circle of prayer at the La Jolla Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy, and his children Virginia Miller Cavanagh, Dyanne Hoffman, Janet Deering, and David Miller.
Hugo was born June 7, 1921, in Nogales, Arizona. Hugo first came to San Diego as a young man, working as a welder for Solar Turbines, until he was called to duty in the army where he became a paratrooper in the Army Air Corps during WWII. His family acknowledged him for his military service on his 91st birthday with a plaque and ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Mt. Soledad.
Hugo graduated from University of Arizona as a mining engineer. He married Nancy Miller in 1950, and brought his family back to San Diego in 1954 when he found work at Convair, a job lasting 15 years. He then worked at Rohr in Chula Vista for 9 years, followed by consulting for Merle Strum until he retired.
Hugo and Nancy attended Pioneer United Church of Christ and University City United Church and have been active leaders in their religious community. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 18, 2012 at 2pm, University City United Church, 2877 Governor Drive, San Diego, CA, 92122.
