Jerry passed away at home in San Diego on 04/09/2018 holding his wife's hand.
Jerry had seven children; Michael David (Cherie); Elizabeth Anne Owens, Gerald Andrew; Anne Celeste Toohey (Mark); Patricia Lynn Rook (Vivan); Daniel Albert (Patti); and Caroline Metcalf. He also had nine grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Devan, Torrey, Matthew, Adam, Andrew, Van, and Landan. The great grandchildren are: Layna, Connor, Thomas, and Patrick.
Jerry joined the Navy when he was seventeen and that's what eventually brought him to San Diego where he met his wife, Mary Jo. They were married and lived in San Francisco for six years where he started his profession of painting/sandblasting. He originally worked in Bethlehem Steel shipyards and later for companies who did work on the fuel farms at Navy facilities. He worked up and down both coasts until he retired at 68.
Jerry loved blackjack at Barona. He also liked picnics, going to the beach and watching TV Westerns and sports. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports whether it was Baseball, Softball, Football, or Soccer.
I think he was proudest of the fact that he was described by several of the younger guys he worked with as "The hardest working man I ever knew."
