Mr. Guzman is survived by his beloved wife, Mae Frances Guzman whom he had been married to for 57 years. He is also survived by two daughters; Patricia Lynn Lingerfelt and Diana Marie Barnes, two granddaughters; Stacy Renee Fenton and Channa Marie Trigg. He also has two great grandchildren; Collin Walker Clayton and Madelaine Nicole Elmer.
George loved his country and proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of the World War II. After retiring as Chief from the Navy in 1963 he went to work for the Department of Defense as a Civil Servant and was in charge of Aviation Ordinance at North Island Naval Air Station until he retired in 1986.
He was born in Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1925; one of five children to Hector Manuel and Lillian May Guzman. He had four siblings; two sisters Elda and Delores (Dee Dee) and two brothers, Jimmy and Gus whom he loved dearly and whenever they all got together it was always a joyous occasion filled with laughter, great memories, music and lots of cold beer and good food.
Over the course of his life George never met a stranger, he would always extend a hand to those less fortunate, made countless lifetime friends and had a positive and lasting impact on the lives of many.
He had a passion for golf, fishing, camping, travel, playing guitar, volunteering in his community and spending time with his loved ones and of course his little dog and best companion; Gus.
He was an active member of Moose International and was a volunteer for the San Diego Police Department in their RSVP program.
He will be deeply missed by many and for those of us who knew him well can hear him saying; “it is what it is and there ain’t nothin you can do about it”.
The family would like to thank and express our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and corpsmen who took such wonderful care of him during his many visits to Balboa Naval Medical Center and for the respect they paid for his service to our country.
He was one of the greats of The Greatest Generation.
