Eric Stephen Nelson

Eric Stephen Nelson of San Diego, CA. passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2023, at UC San Diego Medical Center.

Eric was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Des Plaines, Il. He graduated from Maine West High School and attended DeVry Institute of Technology, in Chicago, IL.

Eric loved his job as a master stonemason for over 30 years. He worked in Telluride and Aspen CO., Burr Ridge, IL, and San Diego, CA. Shortly after 9/11 Eric was selected as the master mason supervisor to construct an exact replica of an Aspen, Colorado western style residence in Sapporo, Japan. When Eric returned from Japan he chose sunny San Diego, CA as his permanent residence. While settling in San Diego Eric soon became a Padres, Chargers fan but never wavered his loyalty to the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He loved to spend his free time with Tricia’s grandchildren and fishing/camping in the Mission Bay area. Eric also always loved getting together for holidays and family events with his cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Eric is survived by his loving mother Helen Schumack of Telluride, CO., cherished sister Laura Nelson (John O’Grady) of Park Ridge, IL, and his devoted girlfriend Patricia (Tricia) Swift of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Eric was preceded in death by his father, Larry Stephen Nelson.

A Memorial Mass for Eric will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at St Eugene’s Church, 7958 W Foster Ave., Chicago. IL 60656. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with mass following at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the “Office for Victims of Crime” at ovc.ojp.gov.
