Elisa Rivera Ramos, aged 85, died peacefully on April 11, 2017 after a brief struggle with a cerebral cavernous malformation. Elisa was born March 9, 1932, in Manilla, Philippines, the daughter of Avelino Rivera Sr. and Tomasa Quianzon. Elisa graduated with a degree in Zoology from the University of the Philippines. Soon after, she taught at Paombong High School in Bulacan, Philippines. In 1962, Elisa married the love of her life Faustino Herrera Ramos, and upon his retirement from the Navy, they continued to live in southern California. First in San Diego, then in Temecula. After the Navy, Mr. Ramos worked in the Merchant Marines and later with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Elisa worked as a Medical Technologist specializing in Hematology for over 30 years. While she was with Mercy Hospital in San Diego for most of those years, she also worked at Sharp Murrieta and Inland Valley Hospital when she made her home in Temecula. Elisa was quite an entrepreneur, delving into such small business opportunities like Princess House. Elisa and Faustino raised one child, their daughter Marissa. Elisa was a member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Temecula, CA. She was active in the church choir, Couples for Christ, The Filipino Ministry and The Santo Nino Prayer Group. Elisa is survived by her daughter, Marissa and her husband Dino Del Fierro of Chula Vista, CA; and their son, DJ and daughter, Elisa Violeta; a brother, Avelino Q. Rivera Jr.; 3 sisters, Consejo R. Rodriguez, Felicidad Q. Rivera, and Sister Tomasa Q. Rivera, OP; and a number of loving relatives and close friends. There will be a visitation for family and friends at the El Camino Memorial in San Diego. Funeral service at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bonita. Graveside service will be at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
