David Lauren Price

David Lauren Price was born on January 29, 1954 to parents, Mary Ann and David Charles Price, at the Fort McClellan Army Hospital in Anniston, Alabama. Though he spent less than two years in the state, Alabama made a life-long impression on Dave; anyone remotely affiliated with him might recall a time he hollered “Roll Tide” in reference to its college football team.

Dave’s formative years were spent in Mt. Helix in East County, San Diego. He was a gifted child in school who excelled in his studies. His strong will and rebellious nature as a teenager combined with his high IQ instilled a desire to be a self made entrepreneur as an adult, being his own boss. Dave had self-assurance, charisma, and an abundance of business acumen to propel his interests. Dave became a career entrepreneur around age 20 when he developed a real estate rental company in the Bay Area of San Francisco. While it grew enough to add branch locations in Los Angeles, Dave had little desire to continue in this market. He closed the offices and circled back to San Diego where he curated PoolScape 2000, his most successful and longest standing business venture. Dave was a fastidious business owner and preferred working “from scratch,” according to his own schedule and models. Though well versed in all aspects, his obvious passion was design, both within the business framework and in the project customizations. Dave always ensured that his business structures reflected the economic conditions at the time and also fulfilled his clients’ personal aspirations. Sadly however, PoolScape 2000 was forced to retire in 2008 after nearly twenty years in operation but the many creations and partnerships he invested in persisted.

Four years prior to its shutdown, Dave inherited a worthy business partner in his lovely wife Michelle. Merging her background in social work with Dave’s knowledge of business structure and fundraising, they helped create Horses Joining Forces, a nonprofit and recovery program benefiting veterans and other trauma survivors that uses horses as its healing component. Launching in 2013, their efforts are continuing to touch the lives of North County residents and bring increased awareness and support to the field of equine therapy.

Across his lifetime, Dave encountered numerous near-death experiences, exemplifying his willingness to engage with life unafraid and sometimes unprepared, always hopeful for the best outcome. When he was faced with a liver cancer diagnosis almost ten years prior to his death, he believed wholeheartedly that he would overcome it. His faith in Christ, zest for life, tireless pursuit of knowledge, and love for his family will always be remembered by those he leaves behind.

Dave is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Michelle Price, his daughters, DeAunne Denmark and Chelsea Price, his granddaughter Brynn, his mother Mary Ann Price, and his three siblings: Debbie Wilde, Ken Price and Karen Price.
