Daniel Allen Robbins was born on November 3, 1943 to Jeanette and Owsley Robbins in Loma Linda, CA. He was raised in Colton, CA with his late older sister LeeAnn and younger brother Rich. He graduated from Colton High School in 1961 and served in the National Guard during the 1965 Watts riot. Dan graduated with distinction from the University of Redlands in 1977 with a Bachelors’ Degree in Public Administration.
Dan joined the San Bernardino Police Department in November, 1966. He accelerated through the ranks and was sworn in as Chief of Police in October, 1989. Dan honorably retired in December, 1995 after 29 years of service. He strongly believed in giving back to the community and served in various civic roles including President of the Rotary Club and President of the YMCA.
In 1971, Dan became the proud father of Andrea Danne Robbins. Though separated by many miles, he made it a point to visit his daughter and granddaughters Emily and Hannah every month.
Dan and Alice were married in Hawaii in 1994. Alice introduced Dan to traveling. Together they traveled the world, visiting 37 countries with England and Ireland being his favorites.
Dan always enjoyed working out and prior to his retirement enjoyed racquetball and tennis. After his second back surgery, he had to quit those activities and took up water color painting. A couple of his paintings are on display here today.
In recent years, Dan pursued his love of music and singing. After attempting to play the guitar, he decided to focus on singing. This past year, singing led to some community acting, which was becoming another creative and rewarding part of his life. Dan’s musical goal was to record a Christmas CD for all of you to enjoy!
In the last few years, Dan was happy to join a great group of tennis players who played every Saturday morning. The tennis matches, lunches, communication and overall comradery between the group was something he was honored to be a part of.
Dan is survived by his wife Alice Robbins of La Jolla, his daughter and son-in-law, Andi and Randy Querry, his granddaughters Emily and Hannah Querry, all of Fountain Valley, and his brother Richard Robbins of Anaheim.
