Carolyn "Lynn" Harris

Carolyn “Lynn” Harris, 79, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Cephus O. Fort and Loretta Talbott. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert E. Harris, her children, Sheryl Quick-Robbins (Terry) of Poway, Mark Pearcy (Linda) of Escondido, Brian Pearcy of Camarillo and Lorel Wirkus (Thomas) of San Diego; step children Robert T. Harris of San Diego and Brian Harris (Kim) of Washington; her brother, Robert Fort of Indianapolis, Indiana; and 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Her quick wit and warm smile will be missed by her family and friends. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Lynn moved to California in 1958 and to San Diego County in 1959 with her husband at that time, Walter Pearcy. Divorced from Walt and raising four children, she met her husband, Robert “Bob” Harris in 1974 and was married in Mission Beach at the Little Chapel of the Catamaran Hotel on August 30, 1975. They combined two families at that time that consisted of 6 teenagers. Lynn started her career at University of California, San Diego on the Administration campus in 1970 in the Academic Senate. She held various administrative positions in that department before being appointed the Manager of the Academic Senate for UCSD. She held that position until she retired in 1996. She was then rehired by the Academic Senate as a consultant until her replacement was hired two years later in 1998. At that point she was able to retire and to begin her many travels with her husband, Bob. They traveled to numerous destinations around the globe. Some of her favorite trips were to Africa, New Zealand, the Mediterranean countries and Peru and the Amazon, with her most favorite trip being to Africa. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the chapel of El Camino Mortuary in Sorrento Valley.
