Carl was born in Panama, where his father was stationed in the Air Force. He grew up on a variety of military bases and graduated from The American School in Japan, an international high school. Once back in the USA, Carl attended San Jose State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
Carl was a Korean War combat veteran and served as a Captain in the Army. Carl had a long career as a real estate entrepreneur and owner/manager of care homes and Montessori schools. He spent his early career in the San Jose and Almaden area of California before moving to Kona, Hawaii, were he built an oceanfront home at Alii Point with his wife, Marjorie. They enjoyed living there for many years. While in Kona, Carl would jump on his motorcycle with either his tennis racket or golf clubs on his back, and off he’d go. They later moved to Del Mar, California to be closer to family.
Carl was a long time member of the Almaden Country Club and Fairbanks Ranch Country Club where he enjoyed playing tennis and golf. He was a natural athlete and loved all sports, especially the game of golf, its history and traditions. Carl regularly shot his age for many years and had the distinction of hitting a hole in one. He was highly regarded by his friends as a real competitor and was also a wiz at poker and gin rummy. He lived his life to the fullest and always with a lot of pizzazz.
Carl is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marjorie, his daughter, Jill Bryant and husband Chris, stepson Stephen Kelley, as well as 4 grandchildren; Zackery, Tatum, Tyler and Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, first wife Joan Murphy-Anderson (mother of his children), son Scott Anderson and stepson Matthew Kelley.
A private service will be held at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Parkinson’s Foundation.
