Betty Lou Hammond, 91, of Rancho Santa Fe California had her final curtain call on January 2, 2019. The renowned dancer and dance studio owner/founder passed peacefully in her own bed in her own house sleeping next to her beloved husband of 69 years, Kelly Hammond.
Betty was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1927 and, at an early age, demonstrated a keen interest in music, dance and the movies which characterized her entire life. A series of moves for her family saw her teach dancing in numerous cities around the country until she arrived in San Diego and established the cherished and successful Hammond Studio of Dance in Solana Beach. The studio served as the safe creative home away from home for countless young dancers who in time brought their little ones back to fall in love with dance as well.
Betty is survived by her husband and their 3 children, Michael (Mary) of Lymington, U.K., Kim (David) of Carlsbad and Kevin (Tiffany) of La Costa. Seven grandchildren include Alex Hammond, Sarah Kelly Hammond, Taylor Jackson, Cooper Jackson, Kelly W. Hammond, Audrey Hammond and Ruby Hammond. Her surviving sister is Joanne Collier of Rome, Georgia.
In memory of Betty, enjoy some good music, tap your toes or get up and dance in honor of a genuine Southern lady. Oh, and give some sugar to your loved ones.
