Bernard, Jacob, and Edward &I lived on the same block  on Collier Ave  we went to School  for a while  together.  I truly miss all 3 of them. 🙏🙏

I remembered when we use to hang out during school days. We lived on the same block. On Collier Ave. In Jackson MS.

Thank you Bernard , for always speaking to me and offering a smile to me and my family. You will be missed, say hello to my Mother Pearlie in heaven.

Bernard was a very cool cat. I worked with him rather closely at times. The more I got to know him the more I enjoyed his company. He was a very wise man and I found myself making excuses to go talk to him so I could get some of his wisdom in my life! I will miss him and wish I had more time to spend with him.  Until we meet again, thank you for being a positive influence in my life! Xoxo

I had the pleasure of working for Bernard for several years at Raydon.  He was a great boss and mentor, but more importantly, a great friend.   Bernard was one of the few people I have ever met that genuinely cares about people and will do everything he can to help them. I learned a great deal from Bernard about work and about life. I often think of the lessons he taught me and I frequently quote him at work    He will be missed, but one day I will see him again. Rest in peace my friend !

I can never forget September 18, 2007, already easily settled in, eating pizza but watching this family come up and down the stairs, in and out the room, bringing in all the red colored things the world had ever seen. You were the tall, center piece, who though might have been taking direction from the women in your life, you set out to make sure all the pieces were put in place. 

That's my first memory of you, Mr. Tatum. Tending to and caring for your daughter, my dear friend. And over the years, I got to see how invested you were in her and therefore by extension me, as her friend. I always took it as both a great kindness and a sign of kinship that when we saw each other we did more than just passed formalities; we visited. It was a continuing on of a tradition that though we were in California, we kept Southern roots and Black pride strong.

I thank you for being a strong, Black man. An example of what we could and should be as a people and a community. Learning that you transitioned has hurt my heart in many, many ways. But I'm grateful for the legacy you have left to cherish. I will be sure to keep that spirit of visiting, of kinship, and friendship alive. Rest well, dear ancestor. We miss you forever.

I was so very sad and shocked to hear the news of Bernard's passing. I had the privilege of working with Bernard for several years in Florida and kept in contact with him after he returned to California. Besides supporting me in my professional endeavors we shared many, many hours of personal stories about family, life experiences, our childhood and personal interests.  He told me many funny stories about Brenda, Briana, his mom and siblings. It was apparent that he loved his family and that he was so very proud of the things that Briana accomplished and looked forward to seeing her successfully conquer her future endeavors. 

Although I only knew him for a few years, he was always supportive and offered advice when I needed it. He never hesitated to give me a pat on the back if it would bolster me in some way. He was knowledgeable and opinionated and not afraid to speak his mind. He was open to process improvements and loved to share his professional knowledge. He made a positive impact on me and I picked up many things from him during our shared work experiences. 

During our calls after he returned to California, he always asked about my family and had a sincere interest in knowing if I were ok and how my life was going.

I so appreciate the opportunity that Briana gave us to have a peek into his life by way of sharing the photographs of Bernard. It is easy to see the love that he had for those people he was with...arms always around them and that big toothy grin. I will miss him and the knowledge that he is out there in the world. My heartfelt condolences go out to Briana, his mother and siblings and all of his friends. 

Rest in peace Bernard, and know you were loved and will be missed.

Bernard and I was station together in England, RAF Alconbury. We were roomates doing the mid 70s.  Bernard came to Va just last year to reunite with me just last year after some 43yrs. It was such a pleasant experience to see him again. He was a big brother I never had, big brother you will be missed, ill always cherish the fun memories of us as young Airmen in a faraway land!!
