Barbara held a Doctorate of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles and worked at RAND Corporation until her retirement. She was an incredibly gifted person: she had a sharp wit, clever mind, and enormous heart. She was a patron of the arts, animal lover, an accomplished seamstress, charitable donor, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, cooking, running, canoeing, bird watching, doing puzzles, and reading.
Barbara is preceded in death by her mother Frieda Shulkin, father Max Seligman, her beloved Aunts Satche and Esther Shulkin, son Fredric Marks and daughter-in-law Cara Marks.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry Markowitz; son James Marks; stepchildren David and Steven Markowitz, Sue Ulvestad and Laurie Raskin; and 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and countless friends she loved as family.
