Anne Louise Heuer Lewis, 98, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in San Diego on November 12, 2024. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 26, 1925 to Richards “Dick” Heuer and Marion Dapp-Heuer. She attended Carlton College, Northfield, MN where she earned a degree in Secretarial Aeronautics. Married on September 10, 1949, Anne and her late husband of 66 years, Albert Theodore “Ted” Lewis, lived on the Chicago North Shore in the towns of Glencoe, Northbrook and Glenview throughout their life together. She loved spending every summer with her family and in her beloved garden at the family summer home on Martha's Vineyard, MA.
Anne was a warm, caring and generous person who was dedicated to her children. She considered herself very fortunate to have five spectacular kids who brought great joy to her life. She tirelessly supported them through their many endeavors until they each found their own path to success. When her children were young, Anne and her family traveled the country extensively, camping all along the way. She loved the excitement of traveling, especially on the spur of the moment. During their travels, they collected many kinds of cactus and rocks that filled their Northbrook home’s greenhouse collection. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She particularly enjoyed decorating the tree, filling stockings with gifts and holding large gift giving celebrations with the whole family at the family home.
In 1956, Anne and Ted were founding members of the Northbrook United Methodist Church. When the church was being built, Anne was instrumental in designing the stained glass windows and décor that make it the beautiful place of worship that it is today. Anne was also an avid, successful stock trader for more than 75 years and a philanthropist who found immense satisfaction in helping others.
Anne contributed to many service and social organizations including decades of involvement with the Northbrook United Methodist Church, North Brook Botanical Gardens, the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, and the Martha’s Vineyard Conservation Society. Anne’s legacy of giving and her love of nature have gratefully been passed down to her five children: Jeff Lewis, Janet Lewis, Marion "Marnie" Hernandez-Malone, Carrie Lewis-Prince and David Lewis in addition to her 3 grandchildren: Andrew Hernandez, Adriane Hernandez and Jessica Hernandez-Ramirez and 3 great grandchildren: Eva-Marie Faith Ramirez, Madalynn Grace Ramirez and Vincent Elias Ramirez Jr. Anne is also survived by her brother Jim Heuer and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Naomi and Isela: Anne’s long time caregivers, for their dedicated and loving care and support.
