Allen"scotty" Harris passed away peacefullyon June 14, 2020 in his home, surrounded by family. He was 94 years old. Allen was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 16, 1926. He went to East High in Cleveland and played quarterback on the football team, forward on the basketball team, and catcher and pitcher on the baseball team, also was the Sergeant of Arms in the Student Government. Allen enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 and began active duty in 1944. He served in WWII, Korea (Chosin Few), and Viet Nam ( which he was in the Battle on Hill 488). He received 4 purple hearts and two bronze stars and a gold star In 1946 he was discharged out of the Marines to attend Ohio State University and graduated in 1949, where he played football and baseball. While he and Sarah attended Ohio State, they married in 1947. Allen met Sarah in second grade. Allen then accepted a commission in the Corps. Re-entered the Marines and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division in 1950. He also was head coach for the Marine football, baseball, and basketball. Allen retired from the Marines in 1967, after 23 years served. After he retired from the Marines, he was hired by San Diego High, coached the football team and became the Athletic Director for 23 years. Also during that time, he worked for the San Diego Padre organization for 23 years, on and off the field.
Sarah preceeded Allen in death on April 7, 2013, she was the love of his life. Allen will be laid to rest beside Sarah at Miramar Cemetery on August 17, 2020.
Allen is survived by four children: Linda K Garwick, daughter, Allen S Harris, Jr, son, Howard J Harris, Sr, son, and Wayne M Harris, son. Also Mona M Harris, daughter-in-law and 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his beloved dauchund, "Princess" and husky-chow, "Kimmie".
