He was born in Childress, Texas, the son of Oscar and Fay Chapman. He married the love of his life, Virginia (“Ginney”) May, on April 13, 1957.
He had a lifelong career with Bank of America and served in offices in San Bernardino, Colton, Hemet, Upland, Rialto, Corona, and La Sierra as Vice President Manager. Bank of America gave him “The Distinguished Performance Award for 1980”.
He was an active, participating member in a number of service clubs, serving as President of the Rialto Chamber of Commerce, President of the Rialto Chapter of the American Cancer Society, where he also received the Outstanding Volunteer Award, President elect of the Rialto Rotary Club, Director of the Corona Chamber of Commerce, and Treasurer of the Corona Chamber of Commerce. The City of Rialto also gave him a Resolution of Recognition for his contribution to the city.
He had a lifelong passion that began as a child for fast pitch softball. He loved to travel and made it a mission to see as much of the world as he could. In his younger years, he also loved to water and snow ski and to play the card game “Rook”. He could light up any room he entered with his wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, had a big kind heart, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia (“Ginney”) Chapman, his three daughters, Pamela (Paul) Douglas, Vicki (Keith) Williams, Jackie (Craig) Jones and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lola Faye Messenger, Mina Pearl Williams, and OraLee Chapman.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, March 23 at 1:00pm at Sandals Church (Hunter Park Campus), 150 Palmyrita Ave, Riverside, CA 92507.
