Gilbert “Gil” Olivas, 82, a 55-year resident of Rialto, California, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 with his loving family at his bedside.
A native Californian, Gil was born on July 30, 1933 in San Bernardino, California to Loretta and Frank Olivas. After graduation from San Bernardino High, he was drafted into the Navy where he served in the Korean War. He wed his high school sweetheart Lillian in November 1954 and would have been celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary this year.
His career with Norton Air Force Base began in 1954 in Civil Service, and retired in 1988 as a Supervisor of Transportation.
Gil was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, #1 father-in-law and a true friend among many. Gil loved camping, Las Vegas and Laughlin, and all other travel. He will be deeply missed by all.
He leaves his beloved wife Lillian and four children: Brenda & (Jimi) Martinez, Marisa & (Brent) Jolstead, Gilbert Olivas, and Jennifer & (Dave) Burnett, 10 grand-children and 9 great-grandchildren and sisters Marie Delgado and Chris Lopez.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday July 31, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mt. View Cemetery, 570 E. Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, CA 92404. The burial will be on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. View Cemetery.
