Zoila was born in Galveston, TX to Jose Francisco Zuniga and Leonarda Mata on August 8, 1937. She went to school at Ball High School in Galveston. She graduated from Texas A&I University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. She worked as a Senior Chemist for Nalco for over 30 years until she retired. She was named one of the Notable Women of Texas for 1984-1985 and was listed as a noteworthy Chemist by Marquis Who’s Who. She was a member of Iota Sigma Pi the National Honor Society for women in chemistry as well as a member of the American Chemical Society (Rubber Division). She was involved in Amigos de las Americas inspiring and building young leaders through community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences. She was very active in the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Texas serving as a chair member since 1986. She served as the Vice Chair in 1986 and the Treasurer in 1991 of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of Harris County.
Zoila was a loving sister and friend who enjoyed gardening in her free time.
Zoila is preceded in death by her father Jose Francisco Zuniga Mata, her mother Leonarda Sustaita Mata, her brother-in-law Manny Campbell, her sister Audelia Mata, her brother-in-law Ray Gleich, her brother Orlando Mata and her sister Sulema Gleich.
Zoila is survived by her sister Janey Campbell, her nephews Stephen Gleich, Brandon Campbell and wife Susie. Nieces Kelli Gleich, Ana-Christina Gibbons, Melissa Delancy and husband Rob, Teresa Moreno, Shannon Campbell and husband Martin, Cynthia Valadez-Mata Jr. Great nephews Kelsey Gleich and wife Bianca, Colton Delancy, Keegan Gleich, Jackson Campbell, Sawyer Delancy, and Hutchinson Delancy. Great nieces Alexis Moreno, Emma Campbell, Kennedy Delancy, Crystal Gibbons and Amber Gibbons.
Rosary and Visitation will be 6pm Thursday April 11, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 10AMFridayApril 12, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas. with the Deacon Paul Gustowski of name of church, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Funeral home. Arrangements are by Sunset Funeral Home.
