He was born in San Antonio on 06/25/1944 and graduated from Lee high school.
He was a highly successful drummer and played in the band Denny Ezba and the Goldens. He also played with famous musicians such as Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender, Mike Nesmith, and more. He was known as the 'bouncing drummer'. When asked how he learned the drums, he said that he 'taught himself and you just have to be born with it'.
He was also a pilot and would fly his band around to many gigs.
In addition to being a talented musician, he had a talent for comedy and could be very amusing. In his younger days, he was awarded a trophy in theater arts for comedy.
He was also a member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, TX dating back to its Castle Hills days. He was devoted to God and believed in the bible. For a time he served as a usher in church.
Wayne's other career was vending machines where he had a passion for Jukeboxes. In his 20's he stopped playing in bands and joined his father, Hulon Hensley, to run Hensley Amusement Company. He was successful and expanded the business with new locations and machines.
Wayne is survived by his only child, Darin Dean Hensley, from his marriage with ex-wife Sandra Hensley. His son loved him very much and was devastated by his loss as many others that was close to him. He was his best friend and will be dearly missed.
