Kathy Parker, a resident of Leon Valley, went to be with her Savior on April 9, 2018. She was born in Arkansas on December 21, 1927, and was preceded in death by her parents, Louie Young and Blanche(Thacker) Young; two sisters, Emma Lee Huffman and Bonita Wagner; and two brothers, James Young and George Frederick Young, and an “adopted” granddaughter, Ute Rivera. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Larry Parker, their son Steve, granddaughter Angie, family members Martha Parker, Ruby Ochoa, Maria Lopez, Marlene Ochoa, and Jennifer Perez, “adopted” grandchildren Greg Tucker, Ruby Munzell-Johnson, Katrina Ayon, nine nieces and nephews and their children, cousins, a host of close friends, and the family dachshund, Max.
During her long and active life, she was a dear friend to many, and loved to entertain. Until her health declined, she enjoyed so much having friends over for meals, and was an excellent cook. She had attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas where she met Larry. Over their married life, they lived in Missouri, Kentucky, Louisiana, Kansas, briefly in Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona, and moved to Texas in 2003. Kathy and Larry were active in the Gideon’s Bible ministry for a number of years, and had attended, and were members of, Cornerstone Church in San Antonio since 2004.
Kathy personified the love of Jesus to everyone she met. Over the years, she was a Sunday School teacher at churches she attended, sang in the choir, and was active in children’s ministries and other church activities. She once authored a Christmas play that was presented in at least two churches she attended, and was famous for her annual Christmas letters to family and friends. She lived the proverbial “life well-lived.”
Although all of us here on earth are tearful over her departure, and will miss her dearly, we know she was welcomed into Heaven by Jesus and all her family and friends that went before. She is no longer in pain, or suffering from ailments as a result of her declining health, and we know that those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior will see her again and spend eternity sharing memories and rejoicing.
