Back when I went to high school with Troy, a weekend's misunderstanding left hard feelings between us. We were friends, but not necessarily close friends and not in the same friend group.
Then that following Monday morning at school, Troy goes out of his way to find me. He extends a handshake, 
puts his other hand on my shoulder, 
looks me in the eye, 
sincerely admits his mistake in the situation, 
and admits that things were not handled well. 
He makes it clear that friendship is more valuable than pride, he hopes our friendship is not damaged. 

Now, thirty-something years later, there have been about a hundred times in my life that I have been much too ashamed and embarrassed to follow-up to situations that caused discomfort and/or hurt feelings. At these times, I think specifically of what Troy did for me that day. It has been my inspiration to put pride and embarrassment aside and quickly apologize and make amends, extending to other's that same gifts of humility, forgiveness, generosity and friendship that Troy extended to me. 
I like to think that I'm a better man for it. 
His legacy lives on here as I try to pass that on to my kids and others around me.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Michelle, Preston and the rest of Troys family as they deal with the grief and sorrow of losing someone so special.  Troy was so proud of Michelles professional accomplishments and his eyes would sparkle when he talked about Preston.  When you met Troy you had an immediate understanding of how important family was to him.  Troy came into our lives as we bought two boats from him.  He was so personable and transparent that we felt we had found a wonderful friend.  When we had questions, all we had to do was text Troy.  We are so blessed that Troy touched our lives and we got a chance to know this wonderful man.  


Troy worked for Sail & Ski for almost 30 years.  In that time, he was more than an employee; he was part of our family.  Troys co-workers and customers love him.  There was nothing Troy would not do to help our company.  And there was nothing Troy would not do to make sure his customers were taken care of and happy.  His passion for great customer service was why he was so successful.  The Sail & Ski family and our customers will miss Troy very much.

Michelle, you must know how much Troy loved and admired you.  He always told me that you were the smarter half.  He was so impressed with how you were able to accomplish so much and how you were doing so well with the school district.

Speaking as a father of a son, I would like to share some thoughts with Preston.
Preston, I am sure you know how proud your dad was of you.  Anytime your name came up, his eyes would light up and he would tell us how smart you are and how well you are doing and how much he loves you. He loved to tell us about your soccer and lately all he talked about was how amazed he was at how fast you learned how to use your 3D printer.

Preston, losing your father will be the hardest thing you will ever have to deal with.  But your dad left you with a gift that will stay with you the rest of your life.  He left you with a gift that is perhaps, the most important responsibility of a father, the gift of setting a great example for how you should live your life.

Preston, I encourage you to be like your dad.

Be generous like your dad.
Be kind like your dad.
Have a good sense of humor like your dad.
Make friends like your dad.
Work hard like your dad.
And, especially, be a great husband and father, like your dad.

If you follow your dads example as you develop into a man, you will be successful and loved your entire life, just like your dad.


My apologies on this somber day. I pray that the grief and sorrow felt through the family shall be met with love and peace. May Troy's soul rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the entire family.  Troy was one of the good guys to the core.  I will treasure the memories of him from middle school and high school; from band and the classes we had together.  Rest In Peace my friend.

I was so sorry to hear of Troy's death and want to express my most sincere sympathies to Michelle, Preston and the family during this difficult time. Troy was not only a highly valued and respected member of the Sail & Ski Team, whom I've known and worked with for over 20 years, he was a friend. The effects of his passing have been felt deeply by all of his coworkers and his valued and loyal customers. 

Troy was a wonderful son, brother, husband and a very proud daddy. His sense of humor, kindness, genuine sense of curiosity, interest in others, loyalty, pragmatism and chivalry will be missed. We had many a lively conversation over the years and the one's I remember the most were about family, friends and the passions in life that made us the most happy. 

For Troy, it was his wife Michelle and their son Preston  nothing made Troy light up, smile, show his dimples and giggle (if you know Troy you know the smile and giggle I'm talking about) more than talking about his family. He was proud of Michelle and her professional achievements and so proud of Preston, in many ways, but especially his latest accomplishments on the soccer field. 

Every time I saw Troy he asked how I was doing, how my Mother was doing and how life was treating me, he listened attentively and always made me feel I had been heard. Even when we talked about politics, which wasn't something we always agreed upon, but was something we both enjoyed, because how can you not these days, he always endeavored to understand what I was saying and consider all sides, ideas and opinions. 

I will miss his phone calls, which usually started with a joke that made my day, his emails with pictures of Preston and their latest adventures, a new puppy or the latest political cartoon that made him giggle. Sadly, my next Herd's Hamburger will not be the same without being able to call Troy and tell him I had the best hamburger today and he didn't!

Quite simply, Troy made the world a better place and the void he leaves behind is irreplaceable. 

Rest in Peace my friend.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. Troy always had a smile on his face and was such a pleasure to be around when I worked  boat shows with him. My best to all of his family both at home and at work.

Sandra and I can't imagine the pain you are having at this time.  We have both known Troy for 20 years during which time he sold me two boats and was about to close on a third.

Troy was part of what I call the "Core Group" of my dealings with Sail & Ski which includes Mark, Pat, and Chris and, of course, Troy.

All of whom have become my friends, not just my boat Dealer.  Troy was way beyond a Salesman.  He consistently had my best interests in mind and I looked forward to working with him due to his good-hearted nature.  I believe everyone did.

Troy took Sandra and myself to Travis on Dec. 23, while he was to be on vacation, to view a boat.  I had texted him on the Sunday of the Boat Show.

The suddenness of this is devastating.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Michelle, Preston, Triplett family and his Sail and Ski family, I would like to extend our deepest condolences. I only heard of his passing last night. Our prayers are with you all at this difficult time. 

Troy Triplett was my cousin. Growing up with Troy was a lot of fun. The summers we spent at Granny and Grandpa's in Allen, Oklahoma we're some of the best times in my childhood. The neighborhood we played in,till we moved across highway 9,then you would ride your bike over to our house to play. My thoughts and prayers are with my Aunt Carolyn, Uncle Bob,Missy,Michelle and Preston. Troy your laugh,smile and your humor will always be with me. Gone but not forgotten. I love you Troy Preston Triplett may you rest in peace your work on Earth is done my dear cousin.

Troy sold me 3 boats over the years and took great care of me on all three. In my dealings with him over the years he also became a friend, he will be dearly missed!

I first met Troy at the Austin Boat Show about 5 years ago. I was so impressed with him that I ordered the boat from him on the spot. He always took great care of me and would call me often to check on me, personally, and the boat. He went above and beyond and his service was first class. As I am in sales as well, we would often talk about the similarities between the boat business and the car business. Troy was loyal, dependable, and honest....He often spoke about his wife and son. I had the pleasure of meeting his son at my house on the lake a few times when Troy would come by and drop off the boat. He was such a great person and even though we were not "friends? outside of our business relationship...I considered him a friend. I will miss him very much but I will never forget him. God Bless you Troy and your beautiful family.

I did not know Troy well, but I knew him for a long time. He sold me a number of Ski Nautiques at Sail & Ski over the last 20 years, but it would be cliche to leave it at that.  

Unlike many "salesmen", Troy served the customer beyond the "sale".  Always being available to help.  Always being available to go above and beyond his "job description".  He was a model for everyone in the industry.  He treated the customer like he would want to be treated.  Never high pressure, but always available, and always reaching out.  What a class act.

His passing was indeed too soon.  I will miss him, and although he wasn't a central figure in my life, he was a most-reliable part of it, and that is now missing. I regret not having ever fully expressing that to him in this life with the clarity I feel now.  Troy, I really appreciate you.

There are not enough words to describe what it felt like to learn of your passing.  Its very difficult to understand why a person like you is taken from us too early in your life.  My prayers are with your family, friends, customers, your second family in the San Antonio store and all of Sail & Ski.  Im thankful we were able to spend four days sharing the dock this past weekend.  The last thing I said to you was see you in Austin in two weeks.  Well, it will be a bit longer before we see each other.  Since being back in Austin we have been taking down our holiday decorations.  I truly believe we heard a bell ring in one of the boxes the other day.

So very sorry for your loss. Prayers for each member of his family that you may find comfort and understanding.

 There are not adequate words to describe the level that Troy...this husband, father, son, brother, dear friend, and colleague will be missed. Troy's good nature and warm demeanor always picked you up in the many light hearted discussions we shared over the last nearly 30 years. I never walked away from a conversation or contact with Troy without a more positive outlook. He always was there to hear what was on my mind, good or bad. His sense of humor could soften the hardest landings. If you knew Troy, you know exactly what I mean. Peaceful Rest, my brother...Until we are all together again.

I am sorry to learn of Troy's passing. He is a wonderful friend, and a highly esteemed colleague. I hope that your many fond memories of Troy can bring you comfort and healing  thru this difficult time.

My prayers go out to his entire family.  I have so many fond memories with him from our time together in High School and College.  He was a great friend and things were never dull with him around.  I lost touch with him after moving to Michigan but will always have his memory around to make me smile.
