On Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 106 years, Soledad Rodriguez passed away surrounded by her three daughters. She is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great, grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Robert Rodriguez and grandson Israel Cervantes.
Soledad, (Mama Chole) as she was fondly known by most, lived a simple yet fulfilling life. She was born into a multigenerational matriarchal family. She spent most of her childhood with extended family where she developed a sense of responsibility to her family and fellow men. A devout Catholic, Mama Chole rarely missed Sunday mass. She instilled in her family the same values she learned as a child, primarily service to God through serving others.
"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me."
Whether we had enough to eat or not, no one who entered our home went hungry. Mama Chole would say, God provides for one more. Visitors either had a home cooked meal or took it home to share with their family.
Mother's compassion for her fellow men compelled her to find a way to help a others treat their wounds or prayed for those who found themselves in her arms while taking their last breath.
She had a keen sense of civic duty and social justice. It is said she once boarded church bus at Christ The King Church to attend a protest at City Hall. The Issue was a hike in utility rates. She showed up with a handful of bills, showed them to a TV reporter, stated her case and left for home to tend to her 98 year old mother.
Mother never danced but enjoyed music. She was gifted with a beautiful voice. The last time she sang was in November 2023, where she crashed a children's birthday party thinking it was a posada.
She enjoyed watching Soccer & the Cowboy's football games. Made flower Arrangements, Needlework and Painted scenes on Tin Sheets, and Participating in Posadas pastorela.
Because of her petite figure, she was used to train wild horses, and she never fell off any of the horses. She loved gardening, cooking, and reading her Bible.
She was the center of family life. We are deeply grateful for the years Our Lord allowed her to be with us. Her spirit lives in our hearts and minds. May she rest peacefully in God's glory.
