Scott W Koehler

Scott leaves behind his wife, Stephanie L Koehler ; son, Heath “Scott” Koehler (Lori); granddaughter, Margaret Koehler; sisters, Sandra D Koehler, Sarah L Koehler (Tony), Savannah L Koehler; brother in law, Mark Walton (Debbie); sister in law, Lugene Walton; nieces and nephews, Steven (Joei), Ben, Ryan (Lindsay), Kyle, Lindsey, Larissa, Brian, Craig (Christi), James and Jacqueline (David); as well as many aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Scott now joins in Heaven his daughters, Shawna E Koehler and Sonja L Koehler; and his parents, Wilburn M and Katherine O Koehler.

Being born in New Braunfels, TX, Scott was the typical big brother to his 3 sisters. He played little league in New Braunfels. He was a Boy Scout, a Junior Trophy Bowler at Solms Bowling Club and a member of the New Braunfels Fighting Unicorn Marching Band. As a young man, he enjoyed listening to the scanner and chasing after fire trucks. He always knew he wanted to become a fireman. He graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1976 then went on to become a volunteer fireman for New Braunfels Fire Department.

Scott graduated from the Texas A&M Firefighter’s School and went to work for the New Braunfels Fire Department in 1977. He was an Engineer for 30 years. He also served as a Journeyman Electrician, who served the New Braunfels community with various electric companies.

In 1980, he married the love of his life, Stephanie L Walton, at St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had been confirmed. Through this marriage he was blessed with an instant family, a son he loved as his own, Lil Scott. They enjoyed spending time on the river, dancing, camping and spending time with his family. Soon thereafter he was blessed with his first baby girl, Sonja, and a couple of years later with his second baby girl, Shawna. You could always find Scott outside piddling on something to help Shawna with her horses and horseshows or attending the many activities Shawna was involved in throughout her life. He volunteered with many trail ride organizations over the years. He was recognized as an Outstanding Lifetime Member of GRA-TRAils and was currently serving on the Board of Directors. He volunteered with GRA-TRAils for over 30 years and was known for the Cattle Call in the morning and driving the Potty Wagon, affectionately known as Scotty Potty, along the trails.

In 1990 he received his Peace Officer Certification from the San Antonio Police Academy and became an Arson Investigator for New Braunfels Fire Department. He also worked as a River Cop on the Comal River during the summer.

In 1995, his family grew again when Lil Scott married Lori. Scott became a Grandpa to his only grandchild, Margaret, who he immensely adored in 2002. They shared a special relationship, as “Gramps” was always there to bring a smile to her face and embrace her with a big warm hug.

After retiring from the New Braunfels Fire Department, he went to work in the HazMat industry and ultimately retired in 2019. In his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, drinking his sweet tea from Bill Millers and driving around listening to his old country music in his Ford 150. Scott never met a stranger and was known for his gift of gab, as well as being the perfect “MacGyver”. He could fix anything and was always there to help if you needed anything.

We will all miss the teddy bear hugs from “Squeeze Me”, his funny jokes that could last for hours and his fun sense of humor.
