It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Salvador L. Reyes, Jr. 48 of San Antonio, TX on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Born on July 30, 1972, “El Niño as he was called by his mother; or “Little Sal or Chavita” as he was affectionately called by family, attended St. Gregory the Great Catholic School and Thomas C. Clark High School. Sal was a proud 2008 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BA in Business Administration.
Sal worked for Credit Human’s MH Lending Division for ten years. He was an authentic man and loved to watch and read about sports, especially the UTSA Roadrunners and Texas Longhorn football teams. He also loved the Houston Texans, the Houston Astros and of course the San Antonio Spurs. Win or lose they were still his favorite teams and he proudly cheered them on. As a UTSA football ticketholder, he and his wife loved to travel and support the Roadrunners at most road games. Sal loved listening to Old Country, Tejano and Norteño music. An avid Star Wars fan, Sal collected valuable action figures for many years. He was also a wonderful cook, loved to grill and if you were ever fortunate enough to taste his Mexican rice you were blessed.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Sal is survived by the woman who completed and fulfilled his life, his loving wife of 10 years, Petra Garza-Reyes; his mother, Mary Esther Reyes; his father, Salvador Reyes, Sr. (Isabel); his aunt who was like a second mom, Yolanda Lopez; his mother-in-law, Minerva Guajardo; father-in-law Jose Luis Garza; sister-in-law Blanca Garza; brother-in-law Jose L. Garza (Ana); nephews Noah (also godson) and Jacob Garza; and goddaughters, Mia Grace Paredes and Zoe Briones; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Viewing will take place at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Monday, January 18th at 6 pm; Rosary to follow at 7 pm (6321 Bandera Rd., San Antonio, TX 78238; due to COVID regulations, Rosary capacity is limited 60, first-come). Additional Viewing and Rosary will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 19th from 10 to 11 am before departing to the church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at Noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church (13715 Riggs Road, Helotes, TX 78023; 200 capacity). Private burial services for family only to follow. Pallbearers will be his best friend Brian Parr, Logan Parr, Raul J. Lopez, III, Jose L. Garza, Mario Hernandez, Rudy Briones and John Paul Reyes.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Sal. He was a man of few words, but the words he chose were the right ones and the words you needed to hear. The world has lost a kind, gentle soul and we will never be the same without Little Sal in our lives. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Romans 8:28
