Roy Walter Albert, age 97, was born in Floresville, Texas on January 14, 1924, died December 6, 2021 in Floresville. Parents were Edward F. Albert and Mary Voelkel Albert. He was the youngest son with eight other siblings, one surviving sister, Melba Tyson.
Roy was raised on a farm in McCoy, Texas, until he married Leah Zunker (deceased). They were married for more than 50 years and lived in San Antonio running their business, Mission Fence. Upon retirement, they moved to China Grove, where he continued to hunt and raise longhorn cattle.
The family consisted of three children: Darlene Cox, Larry Albert (deceased), and Darnell Muenchow (Doug-Husband), three grandchildren: Darrell Cox (Kim-Wife), Lisa Nickel (Jenson- Husband), and Darla Steubing (Chris- Husband), seven great grandchildren: Callie and Casen Cox, Landri and Newt Nickel, Hayden, Briana, and Riley Steubing.
Four years ago, Roy moved to New Haven Assisted Living in Floresville, where he resided until death. They named him “Cowboy” because of his cowboy hat and longhorn cattle he loved.
Roy will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, send donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
